Following Kaleidico's victory in the 2026 Admin vote, he did something unprecedented. When the time came to pick the already new position of Co-Moderator, it seemed that He just couldn't settle for just one. Both Basil and JVTA were selected, and will both serve as acting Co-Mods during Kaleidico's term. This shocking decision marks both the return of Basil to a moderator position, as well as the first time that JVTA has managed to make it to one. This is particularly notable occurance due to the fact that JVTA has both ran and lost in every prior election.
It is neither the purpose nor intention of this post to tell you as a reader what to think. What I do want, however, is for there to be genuine conversation surrounding the logistics of the current administration's structure.
Starting with positives, it serves as a hard stance against partisan or biased decisions. Kaleidico has been outspokenly working to eliminate potential bias in moderator decisions, particularly regarding topics such as ban sentences. In what can be best described as another application of this principle of fairness, Kaleidico chose JVTA and Basil as his co-moderators. Their views are both differing from his own, as well as different from each other. Together the three of them make up what amounts to a mod team that spans the entire "spectrum" of attitudes towards various issues on the server.
Continuing the positives, it allows for much greater periods of time where moderators are present in some capacity, and divides the workload significantly. In theory, three mods working on different things would be significantly more efficient for the server, especially given Kaleidico's expressed desire to expand the server's playerbase
Now moving on to the negative aspects, The three-person setup can very easily be considered too much, given the general (lack of) frequency of incidents which seem to require mods in the first place, combined with the fact that 3 people deliberating over a decision can and will inevitably be slower than 1 or 2 people. It feels like an instance where otherwise speedy decisions are going to be hampered through deliberation is more of a certainty than anything. Additionally, the people that Kaleidico chose to work alongside can very easily be called into question. Firstly there's the case of JVTA. The fact that they've run in every moderator election and have never been the first choice should be incredibly indicitave of why I believe JVTA to be a poor choice for a co-mod. Even though much of the hate surrounding them is baseless, or blown hilariously out of proportion, it cannot be denied that JVTA seems to be utterly lost as to what their own policy and beliefs are. For someone so adamant about running, actually getting concrete policy out of them was akin to pulling teeth. I don't know about any of you, but it feels like a red flag to me that a candidate who's essentially been running constantly since 2023 didn't properly articulate their policy until the 2026 election.
And then there is Basil. Basil has actual experience in the moderator position, albeit limited. Rather infamously, he went almost completely inactive halfway through his tenure, and while his absence was completely out of his control (and im not faulting him for that) it absolutely had an effect. Much of my concerns for him as a co-mod stem from his habit of long periods of inactivity, as his investment in the server has a tends to fluctuate. One can only wonder just how committed to this position he would actually be. Contrary to Jonas, Basil had an actual policy outline (so I guess that's a step in the right direction.) If Basil remains consistently active, many of the potential issues i see with him as a co-mod are considerably lessened.
Of course, talk regarding this administration cannot be had without mentioning Kaleidico himself. He is all too ready to experiment with the structures of """"power"""" around him, and it remains to simultaneously be his greatest strength, and his most glaring flaw. He won for being the "safe" option, although his current attitude seems to be anything but. I can't be so beligerent as to say that Kaleidico doesn't know what he's doing, because it's incredibly apparent that he does, but I personally have a feeling that he doesn't always know the outcome of the experiments he conducts (so to speak.)
These are only my thoughts, however. I don't speak for anybody but myself. I hope that these words can serve to maybe spark discussion beyond the usual back and forth, because I think that even in the insanely low-stakes environment of a minecraft server, wider discussion of how that server runs should absolutely be encouraged if not solely for the entertainment factor.
